For the Lost in Space Project for English I wrote and fabricated a Journal filled with entries. My scenario I had to write about was, you just received your letter from the International Nautical Society and have been chosen to compete in the single person sailing race from California to the Cook Islands. Everything is smooth sailing until you sail south of the Equator and crash the boat beyond repair on a shoal. You see the small island in the distance and you must swim through the shark infested waters to see if it is inhabited. For my plot I typed out my journal entries, printed them into a journal, and made 5 different personal artifacts. My first journal entry looks like this:
April 3rd, 2020 Dear Journal, Surfs up dude! Name’s Sammy Boo Reynolds. I was born on June 8th, 2002 in Long Beach, California. My parents are Dane and Courtney Reynolds. My dad’s a professional surfer who surfs all over the world. While, my mom’s a stylist at a local bouquet, where she’s been working at since high school. I’m currently 17 years-old; and I’m 6’2” weighing 180 lbs. I have a body of a surfer; and I’m able to hold my breath for four whole minutes. Presently, I’m a senior in high school, graduating in the class of 2020. I attend Long Beach Polytechnic High School located at 1600 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90813. Our mascot is a mighty Jackrabbit. At school, I’m active in sports. I’m on the swim team, the surf team, and the water polo team, but my passion is surfing. In my spare time, I’m involved in the following clubs: The Beach Clean Up Club, The Fishing California Club, and The Sailing Club. I live at 1830 East Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach, CA 90802. There I live in a five story apartment complex with many neighbors. We live on the top floor, which my mom refers to as “The Penthouse.” I’m the only child in the family, my parents tell me that I filled their hearts with love when I was born and there was no need to have other children. I have a one year-old Golden Retriever named Aloha. That means “Hello,” but also, “Goodbye,” in Hawaiian. I have a girlfriend whose name is Alana Rene Blanchard. Her and I have been dating for a total of three years now. She is a surfer as well. On the weekends, I enjoy walking to the beach to catch a couple of waves, playing volleyball or Frisbee with my friends, or just taking a walk in the sand or pier. My favorite color is ocean blue, of course, and favorite animal is a dolphin. Whenever I’m surfing, I see dolphins. This puts my mind at ease because when there are dolphins around surfers, we know there are no sharks nearby. Dolphins and sharks are natural enemies. That’s enough about me for now though. If you don’t mind, I am going to go catch some gnarly waves. Later, dude!
I had about 20 pages worth of journal entries. I also had to present my journal and artifacts for Exhibition Night.
