For the Be Heard Project for Physics I designed a pair of headphones. First, there is a cone. The cone holds everything together and wires run through a hole at the bottom. Secondly, there is a joining piece. The joining piece attaches both cones together and everything else inside of them. Third, there is a cushion. The cushion is covered with fabric or cloth to keep it clean and comfortable. Fourth, there is a diaphragm. The diaphragm produces sound when it shifts back and forth. Fifth, there are voice coils. The voice coils carry signals from the sound system to to the speaker and electricity is allowed to flow through it. Sixth, there are magnets. The magnets barely move back and forth and are the heaviest part of the headphone. First, the preferred item for the cone were the Dixie cups. Second, the favored object for the diaphragm was a piece of cloth. Third, the preferred item for the joining piece was a hairband. Fourth, the favored object for the cushion was also a piece of cloth. The outside of my headphones are decorated to display my social justice message for the project. The social justice issue I chose was public school resource inequality. First, three of the images are printed in color and present school supplies and materials. Second, the other three images are printed in black and white to demonstrate no school necessities or essentials. Third, there are two pieces of brown yarn that represents many children of color attend schools that are poorly funded in low income communities.
